   The CB Red Cross maintains its activities in a part of medical care:
1. in the field of health protection and through preventive activities and gaining knowledge and skills from some areas of primary medical care
2. psychosocial help in fighting stress
3. maintaining sport-recreational activities and other cultural and educational activities of children and adults

   In this work you can be our associate, our user, a consultant or give suggestions of some new useful motivating and positive thing. If you find yourselves, your organization, your group etc. in the realization of numerous programs and activities do not hesitate to make a contact with us. We offer different, well known and tried techniques and kinds of work. Apart from this we can also provide you with brochures, written and recorded material (audio and video recordings, CD presentations) for each of the above mentioned activities. We can, therefore, become a team which will act together and achieve all our tasks and goals.

1. 1. Basics
The program of medical promoting activities of the CB Red Cross in cooperation with the Public Health Institute Nis is based on following:

• - radical social changes which led to the rapid modification of the traditional family and social structure all along with social, physical and economic stirring
• - bad health characteristics od children and adolescents, estimated by the analysis of health indicators and aimed surveys showing negative trends,
• - exposure to conflict messages : concernig smoking (on this web page you can find the brochure `Smoking or health` as well as others published in the cooperation with the Public Institute and the CB Red Cross Nis)
• - early sexual activity, aggression in social communications
• - changes in the role of schools starting from the responsibility for pupils` socialization to accepting the obligations related to their health, where the school medical educational programs have the predominant rule.

2 The most frequent health problems of school children and adolescents
The current indicators of this important issue, according to WHO and the surveys done in our country are:


• - smoking, alcohol and drugs
• - undesirable pregnancies and genital diseases
• - injuries (caused by violence, riots)
• - disorders related to inadequate feeding habits
• - depressions, neuroses and other mental health disorders
• - skeleton deformities
• - caries and other disorders of oral and dental health

1. Program targets

The improvement, protection and preservation of health, the students` motivation for gaining knowledge and skills which will enable them form a healthy life style. The components of the medical prevention program appreciate the standards of WHO and the Proffessional Methodology Instruction for carrying out the Act of medical protection of women, children, schoolchildren and students issued by the Public Health Institute for mothers and children.

2. Target groups

The medical prevention program accepts biological, psichophysiological and social characteristics of children and adolescents in certain age categories:
a. children of younger age (7-10)
b. senior (11-14)
c. adolescents and students (16-27)
Each of these gropus is exposed to specefic risk factors related to their health and asks adequate programs, organization and the realization method.


3. Program components

• Medical protection of children, adolescents and students
• Health education
• School surrounding (physical and psichosocial)
• Health promotion for the school staff
• Collective nutriment (collective nutritious meal in school)
• Physical Education and recreation
• Mental health and social support


4. Programs and methods

Medical prevention programs must respond to health needs. As school is a dynamis organization it must respond to all the changes of pupils` health needs, school and social surrounding. Programs and methods must be systematically planned and carried out including:

• medical workers, pupils and students
• teachers
• nonteaching staff
• parents


This program gives the following contents according to previously mentioned target gropus:

• - for schoolchildren of 7-10 years of age
a) our body
b) personal hygiene
c) healthy teeth
d) healthy nutriment
e) diseases and how to preserve our health
f) healthy spine and skeleton
g) healthy life environment
h). the consequences of smoking and alcohol consumation
i) the importance of physical activity and recreation
j) the importance of school surrounding for health


• - The content of medical education for children of 11-14 years of age:
a) what it means to be healthy-risk factors
b) our responsibility for our health
c) puberty
d) the relationship between genders
e) oral and dental health, injuries and first aid
f) alcoholism
g) drug addiction
h) smoking, sport and physical activity

• - The content of medical education for adolescents and students (15-27)
a) healthy parenthood
b) contraceptive protection
c) AIDS
d) Genital contageous diseases, coronary and blood vessel diseases and protection measures
e) Healthy diets principles
f) Stress
g) Mental health
h) Sexual education


The work methods include the presence of all the mentioned participants (pupils, teachers, medical workers, school staff, parents, proffessional workers and CB Red Cross activists, social workers) in the process of health education.

Rad se obavlja putem:
The is done by:
• REGULAR LECTURING (the integration of certain contents into the educational program of some school subjects)
• NON LECTURING ACTIVITIES ( sport sections, different associations, the meintenance of school environment, the organization of school meals, school contests, school shows, etc.)
• NON SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ( the cooperation with the local community in organizing cultural and sport manifestations, picnics, excursions, etc.)


5. ORGANIZATION

For the realization of this plan and program it is necessary to analyse and accept the school health educational program with clearly estimated contents, methodology, task distribution, the ways and dynamics of reporting. Medical workers of the school health service and students` health service and patronage service are responsible for planning, organization and realization of programs and Public Health Institute – its Health education service in cooperation with the CB Red Cross Nis are responsible for coordination and control of their work.

6. Educators` education

It is necessary that the actual educators should have training from certain areas:
• - communicology
• - psichology
• - pedagogy
• - academic knowledge and skills

School staff is also educated in:
• - the importance of hygienic conditions of the school environment and the basic principles of their meintanance
• - collective nutriment-precautious measures
• - The education is done in the rooms of the CB Red Cross Nis ( 39 Pobeda street) before this program starts.

7. Evalutation

At the end of the school year the accomplished results are being controlled in a proper seminar, which has an intention of accepting or changing the strategy for the next period.
